The original Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan contains twelve books, from The Ruins of Gorlan (2004) to The Royal Ranger (2013). John Flanagan also wrote a five-book sequel series also titled The Royal Ranger, two prequel novels under Ranger's Apprentice: The Early Years, and the connected Brotherband Chronicles. A Ranger's Apprentice movie has been in development since the mid-2010s. Walden Media acquired the rights to adapt the series, with The Ruins of Gorlan proposed as the basis for the first film. Note that Erak's Ransom (book seven) is set chronologically between books four and five.
